| fast ramps kill RPM potential. ramp speeds effect cylinder fill rates, and hence cranking compression as well. Overall the larger base circle has a following affect which is better controlled. Smaller base circles do effectively open the valve faster but they also let the valve slap the seat harder on the return as well which will equate to damaged valve seats and stretched valve margins. Doesn't take long to put a head to that type of damage if its being ran hard all the time.
